Laudato Si Group

The Pope’s widely acclaimed encyclical Laudato Si is a call to all Christian communities, indeed to all people of good will, to care for the environment, our ‘sister Earth’. We should do so, not merely because human life depends on it, but also because our environment, in all its huge abundance and incredible diversity, is God’s loved creation.

Starting with a small group who studied and were inspired by Laudato Si, the English Speaking Community of the Parish of Notre Dame, encourages care of our environment both through the witness of small practical steps that are within our reach and by joining the wider Christian community in prayer and worship.

We work closely with the Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation (JPIC) Group of the Anglican community here in Luxembourg. The title of this group underlines that environmental issues and those of social justice are inextricably linked – a point repeatedly emphasised by Pope Francis in Laudato Si.

The 9th Annual British & Irish Film Season

The 9th annual British & Irish Film Season (BIFS) is taking place from 19 – 29 September in Luxembourg.

One of the films, “Camino Voyage” will be screened on Thursday 20 September at 20:30 at the Cinémathèque, with the director in attendance for a post-screening Q&A.

The famous Camino de Santiago is a series of pilgrims’ paths leading to the shrine of the apostle St James in the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia in north-western Spain.

Synopsis: “A crew of two writers, two musicians, an artist and a stonemason build a naomhog – a Kerry currach – and embark on a journey that takes them from Dublin to Wexford, across the Irish Sea, along Devon and Cornwall, across the English Channel, along the north and west coasts of France, then the north and north-west coasts of Spain, to the Camino. This is a story of endurance, of adventure, of music and culture and, above all, achievement.”

The dialogue is partly “as Gaeilge” and there is quite a bit of traditional music performed in the film (which features Glen Hansard amongst others).

Tickets will go on sale from 5th September at http://www.luxembourg-ticket.lu
