Children’s Liturgy online – 20 December 2020

Christmas – the day when Jesus Christ was born – is just around the corner. Today we hear the story about Mary, Jesus’ mother.

In the Children’s Liturgy this Sunday, we will also practise two Christmas Carols to prepare for the Family Mass on Christmas Eve, Thursday 24 December 2020 at 16:00.

Drums (played gently!) will be most welcome!

AWAY IN A MANGER

Away in a manger, no crib for His bed
The little Lord Jesus laid down His sweet head
The stars in the bright sky looked down where He lay
The little Lord Jesus asleep on the hay

The cattle are lowing, the poor Baby awakes
But little Lord Jesus, no crying He makes
I love Thee, Lord Jesus! Look down from the night sky
And stay by my side till morning is nigh

Be near me, Lord Jesus; I ask Thee to stay
Close by me forever, and love me I pray
Bless all the dear children in Thy tender care
And take us to Heaven to live with Thee there

LITTLE DRUMMER BOY

Come they told me
Pa rum pum pum-pum
A newborn King to see
Pa rum pum pum-pum
Our finest gifts we bring
Pa rum pum pum-pum
To lay before the king
Pa rum pum pum-pum
Rum pum pum-pum
Rum pum pum-pum
So to honor Him
Pa rum pum pum-pum
When we come

Little baby
Pa rum pum pum-pum
I am a poor boy too
Pa rum pum pum-pum
I have no gift to bring
Pa rum pum pum-pum
That’s fit to give our King
Pa rum pum pum-pum
Rum pum pum-pum
Rum pum pum-pum
Shall I play for you
Pa rum pum pum-pum
On my drum

Mary nodded
Pa rum pum pum-pum
The ox and lamb kept time
Pa rum pum pum-pum
I played my drum for Him
Pa rum pum pum-pum
I played my best for Him
Pa rum pum pum-pum
Rum pum pum-pum
Rum pum pum-pum
Then He smiled at me
Pa rum pum pum-pum
Me and my drum

Reminder – Light for the Darkness, Wednesday 16 December, St Alphonse

LIGHT FOR THE DARKNESS

For some Christmas is not easy: loneliness, loss, illness, grief, and anxiety feel at odds with the seemingly relentless good cheer of Christmas. This pain is not just individual and personal – many of us, while fine ourselves, are worried about those we love. And the world aches everywhere. Light for the Darkness is a space in which we can bring our personal and collective pain to God, trusting in his comfort and mercy, and opening ourselves and the world to the transforming power of his love. We hold the pain in the light of the hope of Christ.

A prayer station will be open in St Alphonse Church all  day and you are invited to drop in at your convenience and leave a prayer in the manger. At 19:00 we will have a quiet prayer service at St Alphonse.

Light for the Darkness is an ecumenical service offered together with offered the Anglican Community and All Nations Church.
