Pilgrimage for Catechists

As part of the celebrations for the Holy Year of Mercy, our archdiocese is organising a pilgrimage to Rome for Catechists. If any catechists from our community involved recently in teaching the faith to others (adults/Marriage/Preparation courses/Confirmation classes, First Holy Communion preparation/Children’s Liturgy/Baptism Preparation) would like to join this pilgrimage, or would like further information, please see the attached flyer.

Generous parish subsidies are available (contact me directly for more information).

Catechesis is a vital part of our parish life, and is becoming even more important as the teaching of religion is being suppressed in schools in Luxembourg. This is an opportunity to say a sincere thank you on behalf of our parish community to all who give of their time and energy educating others in our Catholic, Christian faith.

New Office

As from this week, my office is located at the Centre Jean XXIII (The Grand Séminaire),

Grand Séminaire de Luxembourg
Centre Jean XXIII (plan d’accès)
52, rue Jules Wilhelm
L-2728 Luxembourg

The entrance to the driveway is close to the rear of the hemicycle, close to Kirchberg. My phone number remains the same: 691 217 713, and my postal address doesn’t change either: 32 rue des Capucins, BP 354, L-1313 Luxembourg.

It is a great relief finally to have a proper office rather than the pokey, multi-purpose room in the garden that has served me since the couvent St Alphonse closed almost 2 years ago for refurbishment. The news that the building work might continue for another year, along with hearing that there was office space to rent in the Séminaire, prompted me to move. I will move back to St Alphonse when the refurbishment is complete.

In the meantime the meeting room at St Alphonse will still be available, so I will still be available there by appointment.

Weekend Concerts

I received the following message from Lisa Zasman who is a professional violinist and plays the violin in our music group)

“Just to let you know that the orchestra I play in will have two quite special concerts this week-end:

  • Saturday 11thJune, 8 pm, in the church of Garnich (near Dippach)
  • Sunday 12thJune, 8 pm, in the church of Weiler-la-Tour (east of Luxemburg city)

On the program: the very beautiful and spiritual Requiem by John Rutter and an Agnus Dei for Marimba and Choir, written by the young Luxemburgish marimba player Sven Kieffer, who will also be playing at the concert.”

I agree with Lisa that Rutter’s Requiem is beautiful! The Agnus Dei for Marimba and Choir promises to be interesting also.

Swimming Trunks Appeal

One of the activities being organised for the men at the Gasperich refugee centre is swimming/swimming lessons, and for this we need to find swimwear. We are appealing for new swimming shorts, medium and small. If you are able to donate one or more pairs, please put them in the Red Cross box by the noticeboard, or hand them to me. Thank you for your continued generosity.

Summer Ball postponed

Our parish Summer Ball, scheduled for next weekend, has been postponed. The timescale for organising the event proved too short, and the Parish Council took the decision to postpone it, or replace it with another event later in the year. Apologies to those who booked. Our next social event is the Outdoor Mass and Barbecue  on Sunday July 3rd at 11:15.

The previous week, we join with the other communities at St Alphonse for the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the Redemptorists being given the custody of the icon of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour. Mass will be at 10:30 and will be led by the Archbishop, and will be followed by a verre d’amitié in the garden.
