Impressive Concert

Tomorrow (Sunday 06 March) a Latvian choir are performing in St Alphonse at 17:00. The programme includes Fauré’s Requiem (for more information, see the flyer – beware, printing the flyer will use up all your black ink!). I attended the rehearsal this afternoon in St Alphonse, and was very impressed: the choir of over 50 people, with an internationally renowned organist, filled the church with the beautiful, sad and at the same time hopeful strains of Fauré’s setting of the traditional requiem texts. If you enjoy music, tomorrow’s concert will be a treat. If you don’t enjoy it, I will personally reimburse you the ticket price.

Entry Free.

See you there,

Fr Ed

St Petersburg Connection?

A parish family have contacted me regarding their son’s visit to St Petersburg this summer to work at the Ermitage. Mathieu is 20, and is looking for accommodation in a supportive, Christian environment. Do you have contacts in the city? If so, it would make the attractive prospect of working in the Ermitage even better, and would put his parents’ mind more at ease!

If you can help with info, please let me know.

Thanks,
Fr Ed

First Confessions — reminder

A reminder that this Sunday (21st February) after the 11:15 Mass children making their First Holy Communion will be celebrating the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession) for the first time. If this involves your child, you will have received an email from Robert Foley with further details.

The celebration of the Sacrament of Reconciliation is required of all children making their First Holy Communion.

Thank you,

Fr Ed

Books for refugees

Wanted — books for refugees.

We are looking for simple books and texts in French, English and Luxembourgish for the refugee centre in Gasperich which the parish is supporting. In particular: basic textbooks; simple texts and readers; childrens’ books; picture books; bandes dessinées; comic books; suitable magazines; simple reference books such as dictionaries and atlases etc. Also sets of Scrabble and Junior Scrabble in both English and French editions and similar games based around words. They can be brought to Church and left in the boxes provided.

Thank you. Steve McCarthy.

Soup Appeal

As with the past couple of years, we would like to serve soup in church after the 12:15 Mass each Wednesday of Lent, beginning this Wednesday 10th of February. We are looking for volunteers to prepare soup for about 40 people (whether bought or home-made). Expenses will be covered, and money raised will go to a good (as yet undecided) cause.

The dates required are:

February 10
February 17
February 24
March 9
March 23

If you can help in any way, that would be great.

Thanks, Fr Ed
