OUR MALTESE PARISHIONERS

Last week I had a chance to meet and talk with Fr Alfred Vella, the priest from Malta who visits Luxembourg regularly offering additional pastoral care to the Maltese community here. On behalf of the parish, I was able to express my great appreciation for the presence of Maltese people in our community, people who are frequent Mass attenders, who are involved in our various Sacrament preparation classes, and are generally supportive in so many ways. Our Maltese parishioners give so much, enriching further our culturally diverse international parish. I look forward to meeting Fr Vella again next month.

MANY, MANY NATIONS! updated

A Church of Many Nations
On the weekend 28/02-01/03 I invited you to place a pin in your country of origin on the world map on our noticeboard, and you responded wholeheartedly. Some of you were so proud of your country, you added numerous pins — only one was counted for each country, however. The result was amazing, and I have to confess way above my predictions: Between the Saturday Vigil Mass and the Sunday morning Mass, we had 41 nationalities represented, with a further 3 being added this weekend — bringing the total to 44. The full list is below, and of course more countries could well be added over time. Our parish is truly international, representing so many different nationalities and cultures: all of us expressing our Catholic faith through the medium of the English language. That we are such a multi-nation community should be a source of great pride for us — and equally a challenge: how can we fully represent and celebrate our unity-in-diversity? This is something we can continue to ponder and discuss. And we give thanks to the God who calls us together in worship each week, and who gives us so much more.

PARENT SUPPORT

I received information (below) regarding the launch of Passage, a ‘by-parents-for-parents’ initiative for English-speakers in Luxembourg. The event is being held on Wednesday 18 March at 10am at the Lycée Michel Lucius, and we have been invited to send a representative. It strikes me that a parent representative would be appropriate here — any offers? See the entire message below, and let me know if you’d like to attend — and any suggestions on how we might usefully follow up.

Thanks,

Fr Ed

Passage Website Launch: Press Conference Invitation
Please join us on Wednesday 18th March at 10 am
at the Lycée Michel Lucius

” Parenting is a challenging job wherever you are in the world.
In Luxembourg many parents are doing this without extended family
support. We recognize the need to provide a forum for this
community to exchange information, advice and support.”
What is Passage?

Passage, the Parent Support Group for the English speaking community in Luxembourg, are launching their long-awaited website on Wednesday March 18th.

The group, voluntarily run by parents for parents, has been operating for over 2 years providing a Support Group and seminars for parents around the challenges of modern day parenting. They also facilitate a Professionals Network for anyone working in the field of education, health or child development in Luxembourg.

The aim of the website is to be a ‘living’ resource for the growing international community of parents who would like information, advice or signposting in English. The intention is to raise awareness of the many children and parent-centered services in Luxembourg, whilst bringing together information and advice regarding issues of interest to parents.

At the heart of the website is the ‘Rites of Passage section that takes parents on a developmental journey from conception to children leaving home.

The group, which has so far been funded by generous Friends of Passage and a ‘Car-boot sale’, hope to raise funds to keep providing and developing services like the upcoming ‘Mindfulness for Parents’ (Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy) course that starts on Thursday 23rd April.
