Longest Night — from darkness to light — Bring your cares to the Lord:

Longest Night — from darkness to light — Bring your cares to the Lord: This is an event to be held in the church of St Alphonse this Wednesday, 18th December, beginning with a service of prayer at 12:30, a prayer-space around the altar will be available for those who wish to drop in and pray during the day and evening. You will have a chance to write your worries, cares and prayer requests and fix them to the cross. There will be prayer aides/suggestions available also. The usual weekday Mass takes place at the side altar at 18:15, then the Longest Night celebration finishes with a simple evening prayer at 19:00. Do take this opportunity to spend time in silence and prayer amidst the bustle of the city. All welcome!

Taking over the city centre!

On Sunday, our English-speaking parish community spilled out of St Alphonse, strolled down the rue des Capucins and gathered in the Place d’Armes to support our music group, our children’s choir and Alizeti. The weather held up, the Christmas carols were beautifully performed, and Glühwein kept the chill at bay! I personally found it such a joyous occasion, and was inspired to see our community out in force, socialising and supporting our musicians. We can’t overestimate the importance of the music at the 11:15 Mass, how it enhances our worship and draws people in to the church — and it was so good to offer what we have every week to a wider (and very appreciative) audience. This is certainly an experience we will repeat.

Many thanks to Kristine and Helen and all who worked so hard and made the event so special.
