INVITATION FROM THE MISSIONAIRES

The newsletter of Les Missionaires de L’Immaculée de Maximilian Kolbe is now available. The Missionaires, based at 130 route d’Esch (opposite the church in Hollerich) celebrate in this edition the life and going to God of Frère Gérard CSsR (formerly based here at St Alphonse). There will be a Mass in memory of Frère Gérard on Thursday 6 November at 18:30 in Hollerich church. All are warmly invited. Further details of the activities of the Missionaires can be found in the newsletter.

SOULSPACE

During September and weekly until the end of November, we are running a series of the news-sheet SoulSpace produced by the Irish Redemptorists. The news-sheet, available at the back of church each week, is currently exploring The Joy of the Gospel, the first letter of Pope Francis, published last year. The Holy Father says some interesting and challenging things, and the letter is well worth looking at. If you missed the September editions, you can find them here. The October series will be available online shortly, and will be also available in print form in church.

VOLUNTEERS REQUIRED!

We are blessed to have so many people involved in the various ministries and activities in our parish: those involved on the Tea/Coffee rota, the Altar Servers, Eucharistic Ministers, Readers, Catechists, Parish Council Members, Sacramental Preparation Groups, Helpers before and After Mass, hymn-book/Mass leaflet organisers… the list goes on.

However, there are so many tasks for which we still require volunteers, and, as always, the more people who are involved, the more the burdens can be shared — and the more we are working together as a community.

Volunteers are needed at the moment for:

Paper recyclers: collecting the Mass-sheets and other papers and taking them to a recycling centre
Taking care of the little ‘shop‘ with the Mass cards and books after Sunday Mass
Administering a reading library with Christian books available on Sunday after Mass in church
Re-decorating the sacrament-preparation room (top right in the church)
A couple of hours secretarial type work per month (Sacramental Registers etc)

In addition, the lady who arranges the flowers would be glad of help from week to week.

More appeals for help of different kinds to follow!

SYRIAN REFUGEE FAMILY — APPEAL

Message received from Agnès, a member of the CVX in Luxembourg ( http://cvx.lu ) “Can we find amongst the the english speaking parish members, or other persons of good will, a family ready to befriend a refugee family from Syria. Both parents are english speaking, civil engineers, belong to the syrian orthodox community, open to attend catholic or other christian services. They have 2 young children from 6 months and 2 years. They feel so lonely in the refugee camp in Marienthal (about 20km from Luxemburg), only few buses and on Sundays no public transport at all.  I am more then ready to guide possible volunteers and to be present at the first encounter.” If you feel able to help in any way, or would like more information, I can put you in touch with Agnes.
