How to find the Centre Jean XXIII

The Centre Jean XXIII is a couple of hundred metres from Kirchberg, behind the Philharmonie — but is hidden away in the woods. Because of the numbers involved in our various community events (primarily catechetical: Marriage Preparation, Confirmation classes, First Holy Communion classes) the Centre Jean XXIII offers spacious, suitable facilities, with good parking. If you know the School St Sophie on the rue Jules Wilhelm, then you will find the Centre (also called the Grand Seminaire) 100 metres down the hill, on the same side of the road.

There is a long driveway through the trees — continue to the very top where the car-parks are located to the left and the right.

If you are dropping off one of your offspring for a class, there is a reception area where you are welcome to wait (with vending machines for hot & cold drinks).

World Day of the Poor

Pope Francis has declared Sunday 19 November 2017 World Day of the Poor. Catholic communities throughout the world will, by prayer and action, be expressing solidarity and re-commiting to aid the poorest people in our world — whether in our midst, or in the wider world.

A Mass celebrating this event will be held at Sacré Coeur at 11:00 on November 19th, and parishes and communities are invited to send representatives to attend. From my part, I think it is important that our English-speaking community is well-represented at this Mass and the meal which will follow. Full details can be found here.

All Saints/All Souls

This coming week, we celebrate two important feasts of the Catholic Church: on Wednesday 01 November, we observe the feast of All Saints: all the saints of God whom we believe to be in heaven. The following day, Thursday 02 November, we pray for all the faithful departed, those we have loved and lost, whom we commend to God’s mercy. Mass times at St Alphonse are slightly different from previous years:

Tuesday evening, 31 October, Vigil of All Saints: Mass in English at 19:00

Wednesday morning 01 November Mass of All Saints at 11:15

Wednesday evening 01 November Mass of All Saints at 17:00

Thursday evening 02 November, Mass for all our Faithful Departed 19:00

Times of Masses at St Alphonse in other languages available at cathol.lu (note ‘Paterekierch’ = the church of St Alphonse).

Home from Home: ex-pat shop opening

here

Next Saturday, 28th October, sees the opening of Home from Home, a shop serving mainly (but not exclusively) English-speaking ex-pats with a wide variety of produce. Home from Home is a venture of parishioner John Heffernan and his business partner Mark Hollis. The official opening begins at 13:00 with music by Alizeti, and the cutting of the ribbon at 14:00. All welcome!
