The Gaelic Sports Club of Luxembourg (GAA) is hosting special events this month; the first is an Open Doors Day where visitors are invited to try playing traditional Gaelic sports such as Camogie, Hurling and Gaelic Football. The Open Doors Day is held in Weimerskirch on 22 June from 14h00 until 17h00.

The Luxembourg Hurling and Camogie Tournament will be held on 28 June in Weimerskirch, all day from 09h00. All Welcome!

This summer, Archbishop Hollerich is leading a group of young people to Thailand on a pastoral trip. This is part of the diocesan programme ‘Converting myself to Christ’. The St Irmine Foundation, founded by the archbishop, is the charitable organisation founded to help fund events such as this trip.

At 18:00 on June 22, the eve of the National Day, there will be a barbecue in the garden of the Archbishop’s residence, 3 avenue Marie-Thérèse, Luxembourg. This event is a fundraiser for ‘Luxembourg goes to Thailand 2014’

This is the first of a new series of discussion evenings, following up some points raised at previous meetings and partly in response to ex-environmentalist and writer Paul Kingsnorth, who maintains that environmental degradation and other ills have already gone so far that there is no point in trying to stop or reverse the situation. We disagree, and planned this series of discussions, not just about the environment but also about what it means to live a fulfilled life. Friday’s meeting will look at some basic questions about how we should live our lives and what rules should guide us.

We will watch a film in which political philosopher Michael Sandel presents three philosophers, Bentham, Kant and Aristotle, and illustrates their theories. This is not at all dry academic stuff but presented entertainingly, and I hope it will provide a useful background to our subsequent discussion of issues that are currently relevant to us.
