Laudato Si Meeting

The next meeting of the Laudato Si discussion group will take place at 8.30 pm on Tuesday 9th May in the ‘Garden Room’/meeting room of the St Alphonse couvent. We will be discussing Chapter 2 of the document. Anyone interested to join the group should contact Steve McCarthy on 621 31 91 10.

Dancing/Hopping at Echternach

On Tuesday 06 June (the Tuesday after Pentecost) the annual Dancing/Hopping procession (there are many videos on YouTube — search for Echternach procession) will be taking place in Echternach. Thousands of people from all over Luxembourg and beyond will be celebrating this day with the tradition procession. If you haven’t witnessed this (UNESCO recognised) event, you should! A group of 50 Irish pilgrims (Anglican and Catholic) are coming from Carlow with their respective bishops to join in the procession, with their youth band to lead them. We have been invited to join them in the procession, and there are 50 places reserved for any of us from our Catholic and Anglican communities.

If you (as a family, individual, or part of a group) would like to join in the procession, please let me know and I will reserve places. And if you’re not joining in the procession, it’s certainly worth witnessing this spectacle that has been celebrated in honour of St Wilibrord since the middle ages.

Praying for good weather,

Fr Ed

Safeguarding Day – Reminder

Introducing Safeguarding

Introducing Safeguarding:  10:30 — 15:30, Saturday 6th May, Centre Jean XXIII

After (literally) years of work, and invaluable consultations with experts (mainly in the UK), we finally have a parish Safeguarding Policy. It has taken so long because we wanted a policy which represents best practice, reflects the complexity of life in Luxembourg, and can best serve our particular circumstances as a parish community.

It should be self-evident that our Catholic Christian community should be a nurturing, safe, up-building environment for all its members and for all who come into contact with us — but to ensure clarity regarding our commitment to Safeguarding in general and particular terms, the principles we follow, and the practical arrangements we have in place, it is necessary to publish, to educate (and to continue to learn) and to evaluate our practice so that we can best live that to which we are committed.

Our overall Policy Statement can be found here, and is on our noticeboard at the back of church; it includes our general statement of intent, and useful contact details.

Protecting our community is not simply the concern of the Parish Priest, nor of the Parish Council — it is the concern of every single one of us, and particularly of every one of us who minister, who perform any service in the name of our community, whether it be eucharistic minister, catechist, server of tea and coffee, etc.

Please come along to Introducing Safeguarding. The day is being led by Bridget Hanlon from HCPT UK, experienced in the field of Safeguarding, and an animated, experienced presenter. Bridget will introduce us to the full Policy document, and will be willing to engage with our questions and concerns.

It would help if you could register your interest by email, but if not, just turn up on the day. All are welcome, a sandwich lunch will be provided, and those involved in any active way in the life of our community are particularly requested to be present if at all possible.

This issue is so important for our community.

Thank you,

Fr Ed

New parish of Luxembourg Notre-Dame

IMPORTANT NEWS: NEW PARISH OF LUXEMBOURG NOTRE-DAME
On the 7th May this year, Archbishop Hollerich is inaugurating the new parish of Luxembourg Notre-Dame, covering the city of Luxembourg. The previous day, 6th May, existing parishes (territorial and linguistic) are being suppressed. This means that the Paroisse Européenne to which the English-speaking Catholic community has belonged, will cease to exist officially, and we will become part of the new city parish. To a large extent, we will not notice any significant difference — the changes are ‘behind the scenes’ and administrative. We continue our celebration of the sacraments, including Mass, and our community life will remain as it has been.

PLEASE READ THE LETTER (FR) Parish of Luxembourg Notre-Dame which gives fuller details of the changes.

Thank you. Fr Ed
