Genealogy request

Received recently:

I am writing from Canada and am hoping that you may be able to help me.
(I found your name on-line on the site for St. Peter and Paul church on rue de Hollerich in Luxembourg City, and it sounded like you understood English.)

I am doing some research on my Bregenzer relatives that at one time lived in Mensdorf, Luxembourg. By 1910, all my relatives with the Bregenzer last
name had emigrated from Luxembourg to North America. Recently, I have received a number of old photos from a distant Bregenzer relative in Chicago.
There is writing on the back of some of the photos that indicate that sometime after 1910, there were still relatives in Luxembourg corresponding with
the relatives in Chicago. (The photos were not dated, nor did they identify the people in the photos or who had sent them.) I am assuming that the
senders must be from the families that married into the Bregenzer family – Hackert, Jacob, Kühn, or Steinmetz.

There are couple of photos of St. Peter and Paul church in Hollerich and writing on the back indicating that the writer was a member of the parish.
I am very interested in finding out who the relatives were that sent the photos and if there still may be relatives living in Luxembourg.

I am not sure that you or the parish staff assists with genealogy research, but if there is someone in the parish that could check the churchbooks
(probably the 1930’s) to see if any of the above names may be found there. (I would be willing to pay for the time involved.) – I am assuming that these
may be elderly people that wrote.

If you require more information, I can send you copies of the photos and what is written on the back as well as any family information that may assist you.
I realize that this is not a lot of information to go on, but that is sometimes the way it goes with genealogy.

Thank you in advance for your time, and I look forward to hearing from you.

2nd Hand Fair & Fleamarket

Members of our parish community will have a stall at the Fleamarket in Limpertsberg on Sunday 4th December to raise funds for next year’s Lourdes pilgrimage and for the appeal for the restoration of the organ in St Alphonse.

The flea market, open to a general range of goods, will take place from 9am to 5pm on Sunday, December 4 in the Victor Hugo hall in Luxembourg-Limpertsberg.

  1. Do you have quality goods you could contribute as soon as possible for this sale? You can bring anything along to church on Saturday/Sunday 26/27 November, or on Saturday/Sunday 3/4 December at latest.
  2. Help is needed (as much as possible!) bringing goods down from the room above the Children’s Liturgy room after Mass on Sunday next, 27th November. Just head for the room at the end of Mass and roll your sleeves up!

Thanks,

Fr Ed

Close of Year of Mercy

Year of Mercy
Officially the Jubilee Year of Mercy comes to a close this weekend, when Pope Francis solemnly closes the Holy Door in St Peter’s in the Vatican. In our parish, we have one extra week! After Masses next weekend,  19:00 Saturday evening 26th November, 11:15 Sunday 27th November) there will be the opportunity for simple Confession and Absolution. This will not be a time for long conversation or detailed inventories of sins — that can happen any time by arrangement — this is an invitation to all to receive the sacramental sign of God’s forgiveness. It is too much of an opportunity to let it pass by. ALL are welcome!

From Jessica
Luxembourg co-ordinator

This year our aims were to:
·         Collect over 1,000: more than achieved;
·         focus more on boys 2-4 and 10-14: achieved;
·         improve the quality of the boxes: definitely achieved
·         raise the full €8 sponsorship per box – we were not totally successful this year as we averaged €6.70 per box – however we raised more funds in total, namely €8,797
·         having less wastage by giving more detailed info to people, especially the co-ordinators:  they all did a fantastic job, especially when it came to checking the boxes before delivery;
·         create more awareness of this initiative: also achieved.
Did you know that:
·         the estimated value of the boxes and donations totalled 50,000 Euro;
·         about 450 man hours were needed just to pre-check, receive, final check, load and deliver the boxes to Trier;
·         the boxes reflected the time, energy and love that was invested in them.
A VERY big thank you once again to
·         all the co-ordinators in the churches, schools, groups and companies;
·         all the helpers checking, carrying, sorting, covering, loading boxes;
·         Vincent for providing his van for delivery of the boxes
