Annual appeal for feet

On Thursday evening, 18 April at 20:30, we celebrate the Mass of the Lord’s Supper, the first part of our Easter Liturgy; this year, as always, we need feet to wash — one per person, man, woman or child. If you are coming to Mass on Thursday evening and are willing to have a foot washed during Mass, I would be most grateful. Please email the parish office, parish@catholic.lu, or send a text to 661 127 962

As you will already know, this celebration is simple and beautiful — and if you can add to it with your foot, that would be so good.

Books to donate?

We all have books we could (and perhaps should) pass on to others. It’s even better when we can do this in a way that helps others. The International Bazaar Bookstand is having a 2-day sale of books on 27/28 April. Have you got books to donate? Surely there will be books that you would wish to buy! Details details on the flyer here.

I have donated lots of books, and will probably buy lots more also!

Catechetical Forum — report

The Centre Jean XXlll was the venue for our first catechetical forum — where many of those in our community involved in teaching the faith were able to come together for a day of learning, sharing and prayer. There were speakers from Scotland, Malta, Germany, Luxembourg and England, covering aspects of passing on the faith to children, young people, adults — and the catechesis involved in preparing for the sacraments and in the celebration of the Mass. The day closed with the celebration of the Eucharist.

The forum was organised with several ends in mind: to communicate to each other what is already happening in our community; to learn what is happening elsewhere; to move towards formulating a strategy which can help us meet the faith-formation needs of all our community — and to celebrate and encourage those involved in our catechesis:

  • Preparing for Baptism
  • Children’s Liturgy
  • First Holy Communion preparation
  • Confirmation preparation
  • Adult catechesis
  • Catechesis through the liturgy
  • Parents passing on the faith to their children
  • The role of each of us in passing on the faith

The details of the forum can be found here

Many thanks to contributors and participants — a significant day for our English-speaking Catholic community.

Marche des Péres – report

The 4th annual Marche des Péres took place this year on 23rd March, the Saturday closest to the feast of St Joseph. The pilgrimage walk, for fathers of young families, was from Trois Vierges to Clairvaux abbey, a route of approximately 20km, through fields, forests and up and down plenty of hills! Three priests accompanied the 21 other fathers  and the sole female walker that somehow misunderstood the title of the walk and wondered why she was the only woman! There was a joyful, friendly ambience and a couple of welcome picnic stops.

Up until now the language spoken has mainly been French, but as there were six English-speaking members of our community, the day as, as usual in Luxembourg, multi-lingual. If you’re a father of a young family, look out in March next year for the next trek — it’s both very enjoyable and a good spiritual experience.

I understand there is an equivalent walk for mothers in June, but do not as yet have the details.

The very visible St Joseph and his more modestly attired pilgrims!
