Marriage Preparation Day

Marriage Preparation Day — 16 June

MP DAY
Our next Marriage Preparation Day will be on Saturday, 16 June 2018, from 10:00 – 16:00 at the Centre Jean XXIII near Kirchberg  (the course after that will be in October 2018, details to be confirmed).

This course is for couples preparing for marriage: it’s not about preparing you for the ceremony itself, but for the rest of your married life together. These days have been both popular and highly rated; input is given by trained Marriage Preparation presenters, and as couples you have an opportunity also to share your own experience of life together.

The course is for Catholic and non-Catholic partners.

Exceptionally (due to scheduling issues, for example) you can take the course after your church wedding. If you wish to register for the June date, please see contact details below. To cover costs, we ask €75 from each couple; if this is beyond your means, no problem — again, just get in touch. Refreshments and a sandwich lunch are provided.

Our June course will be presented by members of our English-speaking parish, in association with MarriageCare UK.

To register, or for questions, please contact Martin or Natasa.

Fr Valentine D’Souza

In recent weeks we have been happy to welcome Fr Valentine to our community — many have spoken with him after weekend Masses. Fr Valentine has generously agreed to be available to assist in our parish community while he is in Luxembourg (ie until November); he is available for Confession, blessings of homes, visits to the sick at home or in hospital, available for a chat, and for other pastoral duties. Normally Fr Valentine will need transport arranged as he does not know his way around Luxembourg.

Meeting rooms can be arranged at St Alphonse as required.

Equally, I’m sure Fr Valentine would enjoy simply spending time with members of our community.

Fr Valentine can be contacted by email or by mobile: (+352) 621 352 037

Corpus Christi Procession & Mass

Invitation to the Fête-Dieu
Dear colleague,

I am pleased to invite you to our celebration of Corpus Christi, which we will celebrate on Thursday, May 31, 2018.

19.00h: Mass of all communities in the church of St Michel.
then: Procession of the Blessed Sacrament to the cathedral, via the Corniche – rue du Saint-Esprit, -Place Clairefontaine – rue Notre-Dame.

Final blessing at the cathedral.

After the ceremony, you are cordially invited to stay together in the inner courtyard of the cathedral, to share a ‘verre de l’amitié’  where each community is invited to bring typical “snacks”. Drinks are offered. May I ask you to invite all the faithful of your community to join us in celebrating this great feast of our faith.
Looking forward to seeing you together with many faithful, I send you my best regards!

Return of Fr Ed

As you may know from announcements in church over the past couple of weeks, I have been in Ireland at my parents’ home. With my dad, mum’s sister Mary, my sisters and their families, I was privileged to be with my mum for her final hours, her passing, her resting in the house, and her funeral and burial.

Mum’s passing (which none of us were looking forward to, for obvious reasons), was beautiful; we prayed, sang hymns, played music, then prayed some more; when mum breathed her last, we were all holding her. Then we all experienced a feeling of peace—and joy: a feeling which was evident in the days that followed, and which has remained with us.

In my absence, Fr Rodrigo celebrated our Masses and did so much more: sincere thanks to him; deep thanks also to all members of our parish who stepped in for organise, chauffeur, re-arrange events etc whilst I was away. It was a great comfort to me to know that our community can organise itself to such a degree, and that people can be so generous with their time and energy when needed.

I am now happily back in Luxembourg, trying to catch up with everything, and normal service will be resumed as soon as possible!

Thank you for your support and your prayers during this time.
