Wanted — books for refugees. 

We are looking for simple books and texts in French, English and Luxembourgish for the refugee centre in Gasperich which the parish is supporting. In particular: basic textbooks; simple texts and readers; childrens’ books; picture books; bandes dessinées; comic books; suitable magazines; simple reference books such as dictionaries and atlases etc. Also sets of Scrabble and Junior Scrabble in both English and French editions and similar games based around words. They can be brought to Church and left in the boxes provided.

As with the past couple of years, we would like to serve soup in church after the 12:15 Mass each Wednesday of Lent, beginning this Wednesday 10th of February. We are looking for volunteers to prepare soup for about 40 people (whether bought or home-made). Expenses will be covered, and money raised will go to a good (as yet undecided) cause.

The dates required are:

February 10
February 17
February 24
March 9
March 23

‘Merciful like the Father’ is the title of Archbishop Hollerich’s letter marking the beginning of Lent 2016. The theme is, of course, mercy, and how we may call upon the everlasting mercy of God. We are looking for a carpenter here in Luxembourg who can make a wooden free-standing cross for us, approximately 3m high in good quality wood (e.g. oak).

The deadline is short (i.e. 24 March at latest)

Can you recommend someone? This is, of course, to celebrate the death and resurrection of the Son of the Carpenter of Nazareth!

Bookcases needed

Many thanks to all those who have already donated chairs and tables for the classrooms at the refugee centre at Gasperich. Please keep them coming; language classes are set to start next week – 8^th February. In particular we really need some smallish bookcases. These can be delivered directly to Gasperich, or can be collected if necessary.

If you can help please contact me, and I will pass the information on to Steve McCarthy who is co-ordinating this part of Refugee Aid (as part of the language-teaching aspect).
