Meditation Group plants Trees!

You may think the parish Meditation Group a bit unworldly, but when the threatened high winds meant that the Youth Group had to cancel their tree planting project last Sunday, it was members of the Meditation Group who ‘picked up the spades’…. The trees had to be planted that day so we, together with some of the local residents who had bought the trees, braved the threatened winds to do the job. Happily the wind and rain held off until we had finished the job by 16.30.

Parish Youth Group combat Climate Change by Planting Trees

On 26 January the Parish Youth Group met to discuss an initiative to combat climate change by planting trees –  in the spirit of Pope Francis’ Encyclical Laudato Si. We watched a video about Laudato Si which you can see: HERE , and another specifically about the difference that planting trees can make: HERE.

Later the young people themselves planted a ‘weeping birch’ tree in the monastery garden. Here are some of Fr Ed’s photos of the occasion:

We will plant four more trees behind a block of flats in Luxembourg City next Sunday afternoon – 9th February.

Marriage preparation – 2 possibilities

Our marriage preparation team is running another 2 courses in the next 2 months and you are welcome to sign up if you are getting married in the next year or so.

This course is for couples preparing for marriage: it’s not about preparing you for the ceremony itself, but for the rest of your married life together. These days have been both popular and highly rated; input is given by trained Marriage Preparation presenters, and as couples you have an opportunity also to share your own experience of life together.

The course is for Catholic and non-Catholic partners.

Exceptionally (due to scheduling issues, for example) you can take the course after your church wedding. To cover costs, we ask €100 from each couple; if this is beyond your means, no problem — again, just get in touch. Refreshments and lunch are provided.

The first marriage preparation day is Saturday 29 February at the Centre Jean XXIII in Kirchberg and the second one will be held Saturday 7 March in the Couvent at St Alphonse.   The course runs for a full day from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm.  To register please download an application form by clicking on the link below and send  the completed form to the parish office by email: parish@catholic.lu, making it clear which date you would prefer.  Please do not transfer the fee until your place has been confirmed.
