Annual appeal for feet

Tomorrow evening at 20:30 we celebrate the Mass of the Lord’s Supper, the first part of our Easter Liturgy; this year, as always, we need feet to wash — one per person, man, woman or child. If you are coming to Mass tomorrow evening (Thursday 29th March) and are willing to have a foot washed during Mass, I would be most grateful. Simply send me an email or text to let me know.

As you will already know, this celebration is simple and beautiful — and if you can add to it with your foot, that would be so good.

Thank you,

Fr Ed

Tom Crean

Tom Crean (1877-1938) the intrepid Antarctic explorer and one of Ireland’s unsung heroes is brought to life in this dramatic and humorous solo performance by Aidan Dooley.
Hear the riveting true stories of Crean’s Antarctic explorations as one of the few men to serve with both Scott and Shackleton and survive three famous expeditions: Discovery, (1901 – 1904); Terra Nova (1910 – 1913); and Endurance (1914 – 1916).  Crean’s story is a testament of human fortitude against all the elements of Antarctic, his 36 mile, solitary trek to base camp during the Terra Nova expedition to rescue his comrades Teddy Evans and William Lashly has been described by Antarctic historians as “the finest feat of individual heroism from the entire age of exploration”.

Arepas for Venezuela

Members of our community, involved in ‘ The Asociation for Venezuela’ will be selling arepas (typical corn bread) today, Sunday 18th March after the 11:15 mass in the garden/parking meeting room at St Alphonse. The arepas will be accompanied by cheese, pork, other meats and salad. There will be cupcakes and juice for children also. All are warmly invited.

St Patrick’s Day report

Many thanks to all the organisations and individuals who helped make yesterday’s celebration of St Patrick such a memorable occasion. In spite of the freezing temperature, our procession from the Golden Lady, through town, and into St Alphonse was a great occasion: our giant icon of the saint, altar servers and bagpipe player certainly caught the attention of Saturday shoppers.

An RTL video of the event can be found here, and a gallery of 200 photos from RTL can be found here.

Planning has already begun for next year!
