I have received the following message regarding Safeguarding. I ask, beg, urge and pray that as many of our parish community who can attend, will attend — especially those who are involved in our Children’s Liturgy, FHC catechesis, and who in any capacity are involved with children or vulnerable adults. I will also be contacting many of you on an individual level in this regard. As a parish community we are committed to the safety and welfare of all our members; our Parish Council has nominated a group to formulate our Safeguarding Policy; I have lodged my own Criminal Record Search with the archdiocese here, and have attended an advanced Safeguarding workshop at the International School. This is such an important issue, and we must do everything in our power to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all our parishioners, young, less-than-young, and older! If you are able to attend, please let me know. Thank you.

The Anglican Church of Luxembourg will be running a Safeguarding Training event on Saturday 24 October from 9.30 am to 3.30 pm at the Catholic Seminary, Centre Jean XXIII in Kirchberg.  The Diocese’s Safeguarding Manager, Ian Carter will be coming to Luxembourg to lead this event. Ian will bring us up to date with the latest developments in safeguarding legislation, with information on the checks that we, as a church, are subject to as part of the Church of England. He will also provide advice and training on how to provide good safeguarding measures and practices for the protection of children and other vulnerable people we have contact with, within the context of church.

We still have a few places remaining for this training day and the Reverend Chris Lyon wondered whether you and/or others from your Church might like to join us.

I’ve been in Luxembourg over three years now, and one issue keeps presenting itself. It’s taken me a while to understand it, but it’s there nevertheless. There are a significant number of Catholic women and men who live and work in Luxembourg, value and try to live their Catholic faith, who are single, but who would would be happy to meet others in the same situation — to share experiences, support each other in faith… and maybe more…

Many single young people are in Luxembourg, at a distance from their families, and are trying to maintain their moral principles when the values of many of their colleagues are significantly different from their own. The question is, ‘Do I give in, because I’m lonely or afraid of being alone?’ Or do I hold out, hoping to meet my ideal partner, the one who shares my values, whilst at the same time I’m risking being left by myself, isolated from others?

If you are in the situation described above, and are interested in meeting with others in the same position (for talking, pizza, spiritual reflection — whatever) please let me know. You are already a valued part of our community, and we wish to support you in any way we can.

Here is a message from Judith Golooba of our community regarding her recent appeal for mosquito nets, to guard children in Malawi against malaria:

Dear Friends

You have made a tremendous contribution to my “Mosquito Nets for Malawi Appeal”.

Altogether your contributions in cash amounted to 2500euros and I have received 30 mosquito nets!!!

We really should have a facebook page. Unfortunately (in some respects) I don’t do social media. Our parish community is  looking for someone who can set up and maintain/curate a facebook page for our parish. Could you be that person? If you think you might be able to do this, please get in touch with me and we can plan what we might be able to do. It would be really useful to have this forum for communication and conversation.
